NASA SimLabs Facilities Support Advanced Air Mobility Research

MFRA is supporting simulation facilities at NASA Ames with expertise to test Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) technologies from Electric Vertical Take Off and Landing (eVTOL) vehicle designs, to air taxi ride quality research and certification, to airspace operations in and around airports/vertiports and between cities. These facilities can connect with each other, partner simulators, and actual aircraft – creating fully integrated, highly realistic flight test environments for AAM research.

“MFRA is excited to have the opportunity to retool the SimLabs facilities as NASA’s research focus transitions away from a more traditional Air Traffic Management environment and toward transformative aeronautics concepts, including AAM technology development”, said Neil Otto, MFRA’s SimLabs Program Manager. “It’s an exciting time to be working at SimLabs and NASA Ames!”
